Statement of Purpose: The purpose of this program is to increase the knowledge of nursing students and health care professionals regarding issues surrounding death and dying. The process of death and dying is incorporated into all areas of nursing, and this program will demonstrate how end of life can be viewed as a celebration of life.
Objectives:
Upon completion of the conference, participants will be able to:
1. Discuss the process of dying and the impact on patients, family and health care professionals
2. Identify end-of-life interventions, coping strategies and programs available to families and health care professionals involved in all branches of nursing.
3. Discuss ethical considerations in caring for patients at the end of life.
4. Recognize the importance of spiritual needs at the end of life and how to support families during end of life care.
